About 5 Cyclone Squadron
Today's Youth, Tomorrow's Leaders
Established in 2005, 5 Cyclone Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron has grown quickly and serves youth from Russell, Embrun, Vars, Greely, Winchester and surrounding areas.

The cadet program, in partnership with the Canadian Armed Forces and local organizations, offers its members a fun, challenging and safe environment to practice a range of practical skills and develop leadership and citizenship qualities. We deliver regular, structured weekly training program as well as optional activities where cadets will find themselves participating in a whole host of activities such as: aviation training, survival training, physical fitness, music training, military drill, marksmanship and so much more!

Learn more about our optional activities on our Optional Activities page.
Squadron Sponsoring Committee
In every Air Cadet Squadron, the Squadron Sponsoring Committee (SSC) represents the Air Cadet program within the local community, to provide support and to make necessary arrangements for squadron activities. It's made up of a group of civilians working along the squadron staff.
Local Training is delivered at the Squadron level and is made up of mandatory and complimentary training, both of which are required for successful completion of a training level. Additional training is available through summer training courses which are offered at Cadet Training Centres throughout the country.
5 Cyclone Squadron conducts mandatory parade (training) nights most Thursday evenings from September to June, from 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm. Weekly parades are mandatory for all cadets.
There are two components of the Air Cadet Squadron training program:
-
Mandatory/Complimentary training: weekly training nights on Thursdays, and a few weekend exercises.
-
Optional training: optional activities such as air studies, biathlon, band, drill, and marksmanship.

On our regular training nights, cadets attend interactive lessons to boost their skills in leadership, communication, aviation, general cadet knowledge, citizenship, and other technical skills. Cadets also learn survival skills during our weekend field training exercises.
